Promoting Accessibility, Equal Rights, and Inclusivity

The role of an MP is to serve everyone in our community. I firmly believe that every member of our society holds equal value, and diverse viewpoints must be acknowledged and considered. Effective communication is crucial in identifying needs, understanding issues, and outlining resolutions. The extent of consultation will vary with the issue’s magnitude to ensure comprehensive participation in decision-making. Promoting social inclusion is a top priority for me.

Ensuring Representation

Ensuring representation from all societal sectors within our public and private organisations is essential. We must lead by example, adopting a “Do as I do, not as I say” approach.

LGBT Rights

I unequivocally stand against transphobia and all forms of discrimination. I believe in equality irrespective of gender identity or sexual orientation.

Disability Rights

Access for all is a right! Having chaired the Scrutiny Transport for the North for five years, my committee initiated the social inclusion policy, a blueprint I intend to recommend for adaptation to local requirements across the country. We must also set standards for taxis, pedestrian access to residences, commercial venues, and other aspects.

Anti-Racism

I wholeheartedly condemn racial intolerance.

Supporting Older People

We must ensure the care sector is staffed with skilled professionals, streamlined with NHS operations, and supported by strategically located affordable housing for community workers. While technology will increasingly support home care, the importance of human interaction remains paramount. Investment in businesses developing supportive technologies for our “third life” phase is on my agenda, alongside a committed focus on affordable housing

Education, Skills, and Training

Education, skills, and training are key enablers for the future success of both individuals and the economy. It is crucial to provide job opportunities at all levels to match people’s skills and aspirations.

Local Talent Development

Currently, the lack of career opportunities locally forces our best talent to relocate south. The disparity in earnings and housing costs makes it difficult for people from the south to move north for fear of becoming trapped in a cycle of unaffordable living conditions. To combat this, we must focus on developing talent locally and providing ample opportunities.

Support Initiatives

• Support Schools: Ensure schools have the necessary resources and support to provide quality education. This includes advocating for better funding per pupil to ensure every child receives a high standard of education.
• Promote STEM Subjects: Encourage the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to prepare students for high-demand careers.
• Promote Tertiary Education: Support both academic and vocational tertiary education pathways to cater to diverse career interests.
• Apprenticeships: Offer apprenticeship programs to provide hands-on experience and skill development.
• Lifetime Learning: Facilitate lifelong learning opportunities to help people adapt to technological advancements and evolving work requirements.
• Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND): Ensure adequate funding and resources for students with special educational needs and disabilities, providing them with the support necessary to succeed.

Social Development for Youth

Providing social outlets for young people is equally important. I advocate for:

• Youth Clubs: Establish youth clubs to offer a safe and engaging environment for young people.
• Dedicated Spaces: Create spaces dedicated to youth activities to promote social interaction and personal growth.

By focusing on these areas, we can ensure a robust framework for education, skill development, and career opportunities, fostering a prosperous and inclusive economy.
